We want to suggest you this one day excursion to Abanilla.
It can sound strange “excursion to Abanilla” – the majority of Spanish people would tell you: “There is nothing in Abanilla”, “Why are you going there?”. It´s true that this small and hidden village doesn´t have touristic attractions like Barcelona but it’s just a perfect place for having a nice and relaxing day.
There are some days when we feel the need of exploring and being where nobody has been before. That’s why I suggest you discovering this village.
It’s located near Fortuna. The best way to get there is by A-7 motorway. If you go from Ciudad Quesada, go to Albatera and then take A-7 direction to Murcia until you will find the exit “Santomera/Abanilla”.
Your first impression will be that everybody is looking at you. People from the village are not used to see foreign tourists in Abanilla. Don´t worry, when you speak with them, everybody is very nice and they will help you with everything.
You can walk a little bit through the centre and see the church and the town hall square. There is also a curious place where women have traditionally washed their clothes. From the town hall square go up the stairs until the top of a hill where is a sculpture of Christ. Views from there are amazing.
There are several routes to walk through the mountain. It´s really unusual countryside. I´m sure you will love it. To enjoy this day wear your best sport shoes or boots for walking and discover the amazing countryside of Abanilla.
For sure you will be tired after this day, you can rest and enjoy the gastronomy of this region in one of the typical restaurants of Abanilla.
